Compare free. Pay only to export.
Every comparison is free to view. When you need the redline as a file, one credit exports that pair as a PDF, as Word tracked changes, or both, as often as you like. Credits never expire.
One credit = one export. Credits never expire.
Questions
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Both files are opened and compared by this page in your browser. When you export, the page sends only your credit key and a fingerprint of the two files (a hash, which cannot be turned back into the text) so the same pair is never charged twice.
Which files can I compare?
Word documents saved as .docx and PDFs that contain text (most PDFs made from Word or other software). Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages and have no text to compare. Old .doc files need saving as .docx first. You can compare a .docx against a PDF.
What parts of a Word document are compared?
The body text, including text in tables and lists. Headers, footers, footnotes, comments and text boxes are not compared. If a file already has tracked changes, it is compared as if they were accepted.
Does it show formatting changes?
No. RedlineKit compares the words. A sentence that only changed from regular to bold is not marked as a change.
Will the Word export open in Microsoft Word?
The .docx export uses the standard Office Open XML tracked-change markup (w:ins and w:del), the same elements Word writes when Track Changes is on, so each change can be accepted or rejected. We check every release by opening the export in LibreOffice Writer, which lists each change as a tracked change.
What does one credit buy?
One export of one pair of files: the PDF redline, the Word tracked-changes file, or both, downloaded as often as you like. Comparing a different pair uses another credit. Credits never expire.
How are moved paragraphs shown?
When a paragraph, or a run of four or more words, is deleted in one place and appears unchanged somewhere else, it is marked as a move in green instead of as a separate deletion and insertion. The Word export records moves as a deletion and an insertion.
